Spread is the gap between the lowest and highest current price for the same barcode, as a share of the highest. The median is used rather than the mean so a handful of extreme listings cannot move the figure. Products where retailers disagree by more than fourfold are excluded from the index entirely, because such a gap almost always means the offers are not the same commercial product.

Median and mean of each department’s cheapest available price, sampled from its 1,000 top-ranked products — the ones actually getting traffic — not an exhaustive average across every product, since some departments run to hundreds of thousands of items.
No price trend (rising/falling) yet. Daily price-history snapshots started 17 Aug 2026, but the automated rebuild that writes them currently runs weekly, so only one snapshot exists — not enough to say which way prices are moving. A trend needs at least two separate snapshots to mean anything; fabricating a direction from a single point-in-time capture would just be a guess dressed up as data. This refreshes automatically once a second snapshot lands.
